If your console powers on but won’t boot properly, run through these checks before posting.

Boot issues can mean a few different things, so the more detail you give, the easier it is to narrow down.

Basic checks

  • Fully power off and unplug for a few minutes, then retry
  • Try booting into safe mode / recovery mode (if available)
  • Disconnect any external drives or USB devices
  • Check if the console shows any error messages or codes
  • Listen for unusual behaviour (clicking, repeated restarts, etc.)

When you make a post, include:

  • Console model (PS5, Series S, etc.)
  • Exactly what happens when you power it on
  • Any error messages or codes shown
  • Whether it reaches a logo or stays on a black screen
  • If safe mode / recovery mode works
  • Any previous repair attempts or updates

Common causes

  • Corrupted system software
  • Faulty or failing storage (SSD / HDD)
  • Failed update
  • Power instability
  • Board-level faults in more serious cases

Useful tools

  • USB drive (for reinstalling system software)
  • Access to official firmware files
  • Basic tools if internal inspection is needed

One thing to avoid

Vague posts like “it won’t boot” don’t give enough to go on.
Try to describe exactly what you’re seeing step by step.

Final note

Even if you’re unsure what counts as important, include it anyway.
Small details often point to the actual fault.
